  • Not over yet: Al Shabab will look to win to apply pressure to Al Wahda.

Al Shabab can put a modicum of pressure on Al Wahda in the race for second place in the Arabian Gulf League with three points against Bani Yas on Friday night.

The Dubai club kick off a truncated final round as they welcome Al Samawi to the Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium for a fixture brought forward 24 hours because of the second leg of their GCC Club Cup semi-final against Saham on Tuesday.

Victory would see thirdplaced Shabab secure a top-three finish and in the process climb above Wahda into second, ahead of the Abu Dhabi club’s trip to Al Shaab on Sunday.

However, last month’s 2-1 win for Wahda against Shabab in Al Mamzar means they would only need to take a point from that game as they hold the upper hand in the two sides’ head-to-head battle.

Bani Yas, meanwhile, have lost their last four league games and have nothing to play for as they will finish ninth regardless of Friday’s result.
