Football fans around the country are being urged to ‘Be A Part Of It’ by the UAE Football Association (UAE FA) during the ongoing official President’s Cup trophy tour.
The biggest prize in the domestic game is currently in the midst of a six-city trip in five emirates before the May 18 final between heavyweights Al Ahli and Al Ain at Zayed Sports City.
With two of the biggest and best supported clubs in the UAE contesting the much-anticipated showpiece, the idea behind the trophy tour is to give as many people as possible an experience of the stand-out date on the domestic football calendar.
This weekend, supporters in Al Ain will get the chance to see the much-heralded piece of silverware up close. Al Ain Mall plays host on May 9-10, with Al Ain club following on May 11.
UAE FA president Yousuf Alserkal hoped that people from all sections of UAE society would turn up and enjoy the exciting build up.
He said: “Our target is all the people who are living in the UAE. So we are not only targeting the Emirati fans, we are not only targeting the two clubs’ fans, we are targeting the public regardless of nationality.
“This is one of the ways to get people involved. We are trying many ways but we think that with this idea we are reaching out to the public.
“We are reaching out to contact the public face-to-face and give them the chance to live the event.”
In each city, the imposing President’s Cup will form the centre piece of an interactive zone where fans can get their photo taken with the trophy, have their face painted, take part in goalscoring and other competitions or simply relax and watch some football highlights or play video games.
Supporters have already been treated to a sight of the President’s Cup in Fujairah City Centre, Manar Mall in Ras Al Khamaih, Buhairah Corniche, Sharjah, Dubai Mall and Al Ahli club.
The final four locations are in Abu Dhabi from May 13-17, including the Corniche for the two days before the game.
