  • Back in Dubai: Toure (l) is happy to remain at Al Nasr after arriving late for pre-season.

Al Nasr striker Ibrahima Toure is set to return to the UAE today (Saturday), with his failure to attend the beginning of pre-season training earlier this week caused by the birth of his child according to his agent.

Blue Wave officials voiced their upset when the 28-year-old – who scored 16 goals in 20 Arabian Gulf League appearances last term following his arrival from Monaco – did not show up when expected.

The delay led to question marks about the former Ajman front man’s future, with reports in Turkey linking him with a switch there.

But his current club need not worry about his commitment to them, with the Senegal international “very happy” to remain with the Al Maktoum Stadium outfit.

“Ibrahima delayed his return to the UAE as his wife was giving birth to a child in Senegal,” agent Guy-Michel Boli told Sport360°.

“He wanted to be with her and spend time with his newborn, but he will land in the UAE today and report to Al Nasr.

“You have to know that Ibrahima is very happy to stay at Al Nasr and he is ready to do his best for the new season.”

Toure proved a smart signing for the Dubai-based side last term, his goals putting them agonisingly close to securing AFC Champions League qualification in fifth place.

He truly proved his worth in the GCC Club Cup final however, striking the opener in a 2-1 victory over Oman’s Saham that ended Nasr’s 12-year wait for silverware.
