The Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi has been confirmed as the venue for the season opening 2014 Arabian Gulf Super Cup clash between Al Ahli and Al Ain on Friday, September 12.
The showpiece match provides a gala kick-off to the 2014-15 campaign in the UAE, with the Arabian Gulf League champions (Al Ahli) meeting the President’s Cup winners (Al Ain).
The fixture at Al Jazira’s home ground is given extra spice by the fact it is a repeat of last term’s President’s Cup final, a game in which the Boss denied Cosmin Olaroiu – their former coach – a clean-sweep of domestic silverware during his first year in charge of the Red Knights.
The competition – which was previously called the UAE Super Cup – comes just days before the first round of AGL matches on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 September.
