Al Ain and Al Ahli agree to Super Cup postponement

    The Arabian Gulf League's (AGL) Pro League Committee (PLC) has today announced that the season opening Arabian Gulf Super Cup has been postponed with a later date yet to be confirmed.

    Scheduled for a 7:15pm kick-off on Friday, 12th September at Al Jazira's Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, the Super Cup clash was due to be contested by AGL champions Al Ahli and President's Cup holders Al Ain.

    In a statement on the AGL's official website, no reason was given for the cancellation but it was confirmed that both teams had agreed to the postponement.

    "The Pro League Committee has announced that the Arabian Gulf Super Cup match between Al Ahli and Al Ain – previously scheduled to kick off at 7:15pm on Friday 12th September – has been postponed with the agreement of both clubs," the statement read. "A rescheduled date will be announced in due course."

    Previously called the UAE Super Cup, the showpiece match provides a gala kick-off to the 2014-15 campaign in the UAE with the new AGL season beginning with fixtures on the 15th and 16th September.
