  • Delaying the inevitable: Ajman (l).

Ajman showed they do not plan to give up on their Arabian Gulf League status just yet by coming back from two-goals down to draw 2-2 with high-flying Al Shabab on Friday night.

The Orange Brigade looked dead and buried when Carlos Villanueva and Abdulla Faraj fired in for the third-placed visitors by the 30-minute mark.

Instead, Manuel Cajuda’s men showed real fight after the break to delay the drop to UAE Division 1 Group A. Brazilian Rafael Crivellaro converted Waleed Ahmed’s cross on 55 minutes before striker Boris Kabi squeezed in a late leveller.

The result left Ajman on 14 points, with nine left to play for. They are unlikely to overtake third-bottom Al Dhafra – who they drew 1-1 with twice this term – on 23 points because of their vastly inferior goal difference, and fourth-bottom Emirates Club now cannot be caught after they drew 2-2 at Al Wasl.

The surprise result moved Paulo Comelli’s men onto an unassailable 24 points, but it could have been even better for the Brazilian.

Emirates shocked Zabeel Stadium by racing into a two-goal lead after a rasping start to the second half.

Striker Luis Henrique first trapped a long ball from the back before sending a thunderbolt past home goalkeeper Yousif Abdulla.

More joy followed on 64 minutes, Jamal Ibrahim doubling their advantage with a composed finish into the bottom right-hand corner. The Cheetahs refused to be beaten, the unstoppable Fabio De Lima tapping in a rebound to make it 2-1 with his 10th goal in his last eight matches.

Wasl’s revival was then completed when De Lima completed his brace of tap-ins at the death to see the spoils shared. Meanwhile, Fujairah beat Sharjah 2-1 with goals from Khaleil Khameis and Boubacar Sanogo. Yousif Saeed pulled one back for Sharjah.
