  • Back in action: Caio.

Caio Canedo is expected to provide a boost for Al Wasl with the Brazilian set for his first appearance of the season against Al Nasr on Saturday night.

Wasl coach Gabriel Calderon and Caio’s team-mate Edgar are both looking forward to the return of a man who scored 19 goals in all competitions last season.

His 2015-16 AGL bow could not come at a more opportune time – in the Bur Dubai derby against Nasr. The game comes after Wasl’s 2-0 defeat to champions Al Ain last time out, Calderon admitting Caio’s return will bolster his side’s attacking options.

“The performance against Al Ain was not good and we need a big game to prove ourselves, and I have confidence in the players,” said the Argentine, who is set to welcome back his brilliant Brazilian after he signed a five-year contract in the summer.

“Caio will provide an important addition to the offensive team in the match against Al Nasr. I have confidence that the team will provide their best level. All possibilities are open for the result but it is certain that the players will fight on the pitch to prove themselves.”

One man who is looking forward to lining up alongside 25-year-old Caio for the first time is his compatriot Edgar, who arrived at Zabeel Stadium from Al Shabab in the summer after plundering 37 goals in 70 AGL games in a three-year stint with the Hawks.

“Caio is an excellent player and made a lot last season and is able to help the team, and I am excited to play with him,” said the 28-year-old.

Edgar has found the net just once in four appearances, but added: “Certainly I want and try to register in every game but the most important thing is to help the team win, regardless of who scores the goals.”

The Blue Wave go into the game looking to maintain their perfect record in the league, following wins over Al Dhafra and Emirates Club.
