  • Al Dhafra players celebrate.

Two sequences ended in the Western Region on Saturday as Al Dhafra won for the first time this season, inflicting a 2-0 defeat on Bani Yas, the Sky Blues losing for the first time in 2015-16.

Goals from David Barral and Ahmed Ali in the first and last minutes of the match at the Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Stadium earnt the Western Knights all three points to see them climb out of the relegation zone.

Spaniard Barral chested the ball home inside the opening minute and, as Bani Yas pressed for an equaliser, Ali broke and kept his composure to slide a finish beyond Adel Abubaker in stoppage time.

Fujairah bounced back from a heavy 5-1 defeat by Al Wasl last time out to record a 2-1 home win against Sharjah, their second win of the campaign.

Yousuf Khalfan opened the scoring four minutes before the break, skipping inside the area and striking a fierce shot with the outside of his right boot into Mohamed Yousif’s net.

Humaid Ahmed curled a leftfooted strike into the far corner from the edge of the area to put Fujairah 2-0 up in the 83rd minute against his former side, meaning Wanderley’s stoppage time header from Omar Juma’s cross was just a consolation.
