  • Playing catch up: Al Ahli.

AFC Champions League finalists Al Ahli face a busy festive period after the fixtures for the first five rounds of the second half of the 2015-16 Arabian Gulf League season were released on Sunday.

The Red Knights have a pair of top-flight games to make up after their run to a narrow 1-0 aggregate defeat to China’s Guangzhou Evergrande last month disrupted their domestic schedule.

The postponed Round 2 meeting at Emirates Club will now be played on Wednesday, December 30 at 18:20. Cosmin Olaroiu’s men will then make the short trip to Al Wasl’s Zabeel Stadium on Monday, January 11 2016, kick-off 19:45.

The rest of the AGL clubs will have a break from Saturday, December 26’s end of Round 13 to its newly-announced resumption on Thursday, January 7. The fresh batch of matches run until Round 18 finishes on Saturday, February 6.

Highlights include the latest fight for Abu Dhabi bragging rights as Al Wahda host Al Jazira on Friday, January 22, the Bur Dubai derby as Al Nasr travel to Wasl on Saturday, January 23 plus the relegation battle between Al Shaab and Al Dhafra on Saturday, January 30.

The Pro League Committee have had to be flexible with their scheduling because of the confusion about Kuwait’s now postponed hosting of the 23rd Gulf Cup, which was orginally to be held from late December.

Meanwhile, world organising body FIFA yesterday agreed to amendments to the UAE’s winter transfer window dates.

The mid-season market will now run from Thursday, December 31 to 17:00 on Monday, January 25.  It had been previously been scheduled to be open from Wednesday, January 20 to Monday, February 15, but the derailment of the Gulf Cup meant this was no longer fitting.
