2:44pm – Barcelona in danger of missing out on Antoine Griezmann as Atletico Madrid demand “respect”

Barcelona are in danger of scuppering a deal for Atletico Madrid frontman Antonie Griezmann after the club released a strong statement demanding “respect”.

The La Liga champions have identified Griezmann as a top transfer target this summer and are preparing to activate his €100m release clause.

“We’re fed up with Barcelona’s attitude. That a president, player and a board member speak the way they’ve done about the future of a player with an existing contract and just a few days before disputing a European final, is an absolute lack of respect towards Atlético Madrid and its fans,” wrote Atleti with CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin on the club website.

1:05pm – Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde urges players to push on and make La Liga history

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde has urged his players not to ease up with his team on the verge of making history, as he wants to foster a competitive habit at the Camp Nou.

The La Liga champions are within three matches of going a whole league season unbeaten, thereby becoming the first club to achieve the feat in a 38-game top-flight Spanish season.

Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao recorded undefeated seasons in the 1930s but that was only over 18 matches and Valverde wants his players to seize their place in the record books.

“We carry on with the intention of winning the games we have left and staying competitive,” he told a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s visit of Villarreal.
