  • Yerry Mina has endured a difficult start to life at Barcelona, but his Colombia colleague Carlos Bacca is adamant the defender will turn it around.

Mina, rated as one of the hottest prospects in South American football, joined Barca from Palmeiras for a reported 12 million in January.

However, the 23-year-old featured in just six games for the Blaugrana, despite there being little other depth behind Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti. He was also part of the side that lost at Levante, bringing to an end their unbeaten La Liga run.

Rumours continue to persist that Ernesto Valverde is in the market for another centre-back – with Sevilla’s Clement Lenglet and Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar two high-profile options.

But Bacca, who spent last season on loan at Villarreal from AC Milan, is in no doubt that Mina has a very bright future at the Nou Camp.

“He is a great centre-back,” the striker told Marca. “For Barcelona to notice him when he is in Brazil says a lot.

“I have no doubt that he will succeed in Europe because he has more than enough quality. It’s not easy to get to a club like Barcelona.

“He is adapting with his failures and successes, but the desire to work is not lacking. With his work and faith in God, he will achieve his successes.”
