  • Despite Barcelona‘s appeal to the Administrative Tribunal for Sport, right-back Sergi Roberto will miss the Spanish Super Cup clash against Sevilla due to suspension.

The Spaniard was handed a four-match ban after being involved in an incident with Real Madrid defender Marcelo, during El Clasico played on May 6, which ended 2-2.

A report on Iusport.com suggests that the incident was viewed as an act of aggression and not unsportsmanlike conduct. The ban, therefore, has been upheld.

“We must conclude that with only the allegations of the player, and no images or proof otherwise, that the referee’s verdict cannot be called into question. For that reason, as the appeal can’t be proven to be fact, the attributed sanction handed down to the player will remain the same,” added TAD.

The 26-year-old has already missed three games so far – he was not named in the squad for Barca’s fixtures against Villarreal, Levante and Real Sociedad last season.
