  • Lionel Messi had a stellar 2017/18 season.

Barcelona claim they are on course for having revenues of over one billion euros by 2021 after announcing their financial results for the 2017-18 season.

The LaLiga champions revealed they had a club-record income of 914million euros (£808.7m), with profits of 13m (£11.5m) euros after tax.

The Spanish club received a record transfer fee of £200.6m from Paris St Germain for Brazil forward Neymar last summer, but since broke their transfer record twice on the signings of Ousmane Dembele (£96.8m) and Philippe Coutinho (£106.4m).

Barcelona had announced an income of 708m (£626.4m) euros 12 months ago, but with after-tax profits of 18m (£15.9m) euros.

A statement on the club’s website added: “The board has valued the final balance of the year positively, and it’s in line with the strategic plan of the club to reach 1,000million euros of income in 2021.”

Barcelona ended last season by reclaiming the LaLiga title from rivals Real Madrid and winning the Copa del Rey for a fourth successive year, but they were dumped out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.
