Real Madrid bundled their way through to the Champions League Final with a nervy 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Bernabeu, with the reigning champions grateful to goalkeeper Keylor Navas for some outstanding saves to preserve their dreams of winning the trophy three years in a row.

It was a frantic and at times bizarrely open game, with both teams showing an utter disregard for collective structure, and Bayern will feel they should have gone through after wasting several clearcut chances in both legs.

With performances like this it’s difficult to see how Madrid have managed to advance as far as the final, but they have made it now and considering their ability to play badly but still escape unscathed they will be very confident of their chances of being crowned champions again.

Here are the Bayern Munich ratings from the Bernabeu.

Ulreich 2. Inexplicable error gifted Benzema the key goal. Had little else to do.

Kimmich 6. Netted the opener and was solid throughout the game, getting the better of Marcelo.

Sule 6. Decent performance from the understudy, including a brilliant block on Ronaldo.

Hummels 5. Strong and powerful at the back, but occasionally got caught out of position.

Alaba 7. Always a threat down the left, giving Vazquez a torrid evening and delivering some good crosses.

Tolisso 6. Delivered cross for the opener and generally good except a terrible back pass for Madrid’s second.

Thiago 7. Tried his best to impose order in midfield, showing great passing and solid defensive instincts.

Muller 3. Charged around to no effect, only catching the eye when he appealed for penalties. Awful.

James 6. Showed class and scored his team’s second goal, but needlessly lost possession far too often.

Ribery 5. Thrusting presence down the left wing, but lacked precision in the final third.

Lewandowski 4. Very poor performance, sluggish on the ball and weak in front of goal.
