Spurs v Arsenal games date all the way back to 1886. In that first ever derby Spurs were winning 2-1 by half time but Arsenal complained about bad light and failed to come out for the 2nd half. Here we are 130 years later and there is a very good chance of Arsenal doing the same thing again!

This has got to be the most important North London derby ever played. Never before have both teams gone into it challenging for the title and the league so precariously perched. It’s arguably the most important game of any kind that Spurs have played in the 55 years since our last title win with the famous double team of 1961.

Following the recent form of both teams, the pundits are making Spurs favourites. But we all know that means very little when it comes to the North London derby. Form goes out the window, games often decided by single moments of magic, madness or an official.

    Spurs' last four results

    • EPL: 1-0 (A) West Ham - Loss
    • EPL: 2-0 (H) Swansea - Win
    • UEL: 3-0 (H) Fiorentina - Win
    • FA Cup: 0-1 (H) Crystal Palace - Loss

As one British TV commentator said once replied during a previous North London derby as his contemporary asked: “It’s quite a game…”

    “Isn’t it always?”

PREDICTION: A precious 2-0 victory for Spurs.

LIKELY SPURS XI: Lloris, Walker, Wimmer, Alderweireld, Rose, Dier, Alli, Dembele, Eriksen, Lamela, Kane.

TOTTENHAM PLAYER TO WATCH:  Mousa Dembele – The heartbeat of the Spurs midfield and the link between defence and attack. He gives the term “makes a difference” a new meaning.

Dembele celebrates after scoring against Norwich.

ARSENAL PLAYER TO FEAR: Francis Coquelin – If Spurs manage to stop him then the Arsenal midfield will find it very difficult to get the ball to play their passing game.

FAVOURITE SPURS-ARSENAL MOMENT: Paul Gascoigne scoring a fantastic free kick in Spurs’ 3-1 victory over Arsenal at Wembley in the 1991 FA Cup semi-final.

    Richard D’cruze, ARSENAL UAE
If you had to ask me on any given day if I’m looking forward to this match, the answer would be ‘Yes’. Why? Because, it’s the North London Derby and it means so much to both sets of fans. There’s always a huge amount of joy in beating Tottenham, be it at the Emirates, White Hart Lane or anywhere else in the world they square off.

But this time it’s hard to be, Arsenal going into it after consecutive losses to Manchester United and Swansea City that saw us drop six points.

Our players and Arsene Wenger don’t have the passion and mentality to win at crucial times and it’s down to the boss’ stubbornness, outdated tactics and training methods. Not to mention his delusional excuses pre and post match that have become as regular features at the Emirates as a Jack Wilshere injury.

It’s difficult to admit but Tottenham look as if they are going to eat Arsenal alive on Saturday. Spurs have been a far superior team this season and they always confident of doing a number on any team they come across.

    Arsenal's last four results

    • EPL: 1-2 (H) Swansea - Loss
    • EPL: 3-2 (A) Man Utd - Loss
    • UCL: 0-2 (H) Barcelona - Loss
    • FA Cup: 0-0 (H) Hull - Draw

Unfortunately for Arsenal, I don’t see a positive result against them. Spurs fans rejoice, you finally have a realistic chance of winning the league after a barren 55 years.

PREDICTION: Tottenham Hotspur 2 Arsenal 1 (if we’re lucky).

LIKELY ARSENAL XI: Ospina; Bellerin, Gabriel, Mertesacker, Monreal; Coquelin, Ramsey; Ozil, Sanchez, Welbeck; Campbell

ARSENAL PLAYER TO WATCH: Joel Campbell – I’d like to say none. But if Campbell gets the nod ahead of all the other jokers we’ve got in attack, he’s the one who’ll be causing some trouble to the Spurs defence. Hopefully Wenger heard the boos when he removed Joel against Swansea and lets him play the full 90 minutes.

    Campbell scores against Swansea.

    Campbell scores against Swansea.

TOTTENHAM PLAYER TO WATCH: Dele Alli –The 19-year-old has scored seven goals in 26 matches and is an absolute star. That’s one goal more than what Jack Wilshere has scored in his entire senior career for Arsenal.

FAVOURITE SPURS-ARSENAL MOMENT: When we won the league at White Hart Lane in 2004. No better way for The Invincibles to do it!

WHERE TO WATCH: Arsenal UAE’s Dubai branch gathers at Velocity Bar JW Marquis in Business Bay. For Gooners in the capital, the Arsenal UAE Abu Dhabi chapter gather at Harvester’s in Holiday Inn Downtown.
