  • A historic season: Gunners on fire.

On this day in 2004, Arsenal drew 2-2 with north London rivals Tottenham at White Hart Lane, clinching the sole point they needed to seal the Premier League crown.

The Gunners had gone the entire season undefeated and entered the day with 81 points, nine clear of second-placed Chelsea and with a game in hand.

Playing in front of a crowd of 36,097 at the home ground of their bitter derby rivals, Patrick Vieira put the visitors in front only three minutes in, and provided the assist for Robert Pires to make it 2-0 in the 35th minute.

A Jamie Redknapp goal and a Robbie Keane penalty saw Spurs fight back and draw level but they couldn’t stop the ‘Invincibles’ from securing the title.

Here’s what else happened on this day:

1950: Chuck Cooper becomes the first African American player ever selected (by the Boston Celtics in the second round) in the NBA Draft.

1964: The Toronto Maple Leafs deferat the Detroit Red Wings 4-0 to seal a 4-3 Stanley Cup Victory, their third in a row.

2003: The lowest total in ODIs is set by Zimbabwe when Sri Lanka bowled them out for 35.

2011: Rafael Nadal beats David Ferrer 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the sixth Barcelona Open title.
