  • Tall order: Dzeko believes he can replace the injured Aguero.

Edin Dzeko has admitted that Sergio Aguero's injury is a blow for Manchester City, but he can fill the void.

Aguero is expected to be out for around eight weeks after picking up a calf injury in the 6-3 win over Arsenal last weekend.

The Argentine striker is City's top scorer this season, having netted 19 goals in 20 games.

Dzeko admits that Aguero's presence will be missed, however he added that Manuel Pellegrini's side have enough quality in their squad to cope with the loss.

"Sergio has had an amazing season, scoring a lot of goals, and he is an important player for us," Dzeko told the Daily Mirror.

"That's life, and now we have to try to play games without him, and try to win.

"This is very bad for the team, but there are a lot of players who want to play."

Dzeko showed he is capable of covering for City's top scorer by scoring a brace in the club's Capital One Cup victory over Leicester City on Tuesday.

Buoyed by his performance, the Bosnian confirmed he is determined to maintain his form.

"I am happy to score two [against Leicester] – that's my job," added Dzeko.

"I hope it means I am back among the goals. When I'm playing, I'm trying always to score goals.

"I am a striker that has scored goals all my life, and I love to do it. When I get a chance I try to do my best.

"We have a superb squad and recently have scored a lot of goals."
