The EFL Cup results in midweek have left Fantasy Premier League managers with plenty to ponder.

Manchester City were knocked out by Manchester United and with Sergio Aguero starting on the bench again, the uncertainty over his playing time remains.

Here’s a look at who could be the ideal captain this week and the defender who represents great value.

But first, a shout out to these tactical geniuses who top our Sport360 fans league going into this week!

    WHO TO PICK AS CAPTAIN

Dimitri Payet (9.4m) was the pick last week and although he came close on a number of occasions, even hitting the post at one point, he failed to score. However, he bagged an assist for the winning goal and a bonus point as well to justify handing him the armband.

This week though, Alexis Sanchez (11.3m) is once again the man in focus. He’s had a modest few weeks but has still been playing well and you feel he’s a due a goal in the league.

Traveling to a struggling Sunderland side, Arsenal will be determined to secure all three points after slipping up against Middlesbrough last week.

Arsenal team-mates Mesut Ozil (9.6m) and Theo Walcott (8.1m) are also contenders. Meanwhile, strikers Romelu Lukaku (9.6m) and Christian Benteke (7.7m) are also in the mix.

The Everton hitman is on a fine run of form, registering either a goal or an assist in five of the last six games. Crystal Palace’s target man will be up against former side Liverpool who have kept just one clean sheet all season.

    THE DEFENDER TO BACK

    JOSE HOLEBAS (Watford – 4.7m)

After his stunning strike last week, it’s no surprise that many FPL managers have taken notice of the Watford left-back. It’s not just that goal that makes him a must-have though. Apart from being substituted in the 90th minute against Chelsea, he’s played every minute of every game this season.

Watford only have two clean sheets so far but Holebas is the most threatening defender in the league going forward. Apart from bagging two goals and one assist so far, he also boasts more attempts at goal (13) than any other defender in the league.

For those of you hit by the injury to Eric Bailly, a straight swap with Antonio Valencia (5.5m) is a good way to go too. The United right-back is the only defender to better Holebas’ tally of nine accurate crosses, registering 12 himself.
