  • Record breaker: Jamie Vardy.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy recently went 11 games without a goal but he’d only need to look back at last season’s remarkable title run to settle any doubts about his goalscoring ability.

On this day last year, the England international scored for the 10th consecutive Premier League game, equalling Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record.

The Dutchman’s feat would go on to be broken by Vardy, against United as well, but he equalled his 2003 mark with a strike against Newcastle at St James’ Park – the same ground where Van Nistelrooy set the record.

Vardy exchanged passes with Leonardo Ulloa and rifled a shot low into the bottom corner in a 3-0 victory.

1971: The NY Rangers scored a record eight goals in the third period of a 12-1 rout of the California Seals
1992: Finland’s Jani Sievinen broke the 100m medley world record
1994: Andrew Symonds made his first-class debut for Queensland against New South Wales
2012: Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo was sacked and replaced by former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez
