Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia recently extended his contract at the club and has had an excellent season ever since at Old Trafford.
A player with an immense work rate, Valencia, despite being in his 30s now, can still run up and down the pitch with ease. And he’s pacy as well.
It was his never-ending bundle of energy that perhaps helped him to keep pressing against Middlesbrough right until the end.
To his delight, goalkeeper Victor Valdes had a horrendous slip following which Valencia scored an easy tap-in.
But Valencia also has this remarkable ability to provide superb crosses into the box, as this stat from our friends at WhoScored points out.
Antonio Valencia: Has made more accurate crosses from open play (39) than any other player in the Premier League this season pic.twitter.com/SRneImewD2— WhoScored.com (@WhoScored) March 23, 2017
As you can see, he has made more accurate crosses from open play (39) than any other player in the Premier League this season.
Well, looks like Valencia is pretty high-on-confidence, just how Jose would like it to be.
While Liverpool might not be able to win the Premier League this season and instead looks to secure a top-four finish, coach Jurgen Klopp will certainly be happy with Roberto Firmino’s exploits.
Firmino’s presence on the field has been a good sign for Liverpool this season.
Known to pull out various tricks from the bag, Firmino has been impressive throughout.
And according to this stat from our friends at WhoScored.com, Firmino has had an impact on the Premier League like only one other this season.
As you can see, only Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez (64) has made more key passes than Firmino (55) in the Premier League this season.
The stat speaks volumes about the kind of player he is. Nutmegs, back-heels, no-look passes, turns and twists are a key part of the Brazilian’s game and he tends to spread magic every time he’s on the pitch.
Now all Klopp would want from him, is a bit more clinical finishing perhaps.
Much has been made of Riyad Mahrez’s dip in form compared to last season, when he was vital to Leicester City’s miraculous title success.
While the Algerian has certainly struggled this season, he nonetheless remains one of the Premier League’s foremost creators of chances, as this stat shows.
Riyad Mahrez: Only Mesut Özil (32) has created more clear-cut goalscoring chances than Mahrez (29) in the Premier League since August 2015 pic.twitter.com/cjX1iVX02d— WhoScored.com (@WhoScored) March 23, 2017
This stat comes with a caveat – Mahrez has created only nine clear-cut chances this season, compared to 20 last year. However, there have been signs that he has been rediscovering his best form in recent weeks, so it’s more than possible that he’ll up his tally over the rest of the season.
Has the criticism of Mahrez this season been too harsh?
