  • If Romelu Lukaku moved from Everton to Manchester United for £75million it would be the most expensive transfer ever between two Premier League clubs.

Here, we look at the record completed deals between English sides.

    1. FERNANDO TORRES (Liverpool to Chelsea, £50m, 2011)

The Spain striker left Liverpool after becoming disillusioned with life at Anfield but his choice of Chelsea was contentious from the start and it never paid off as he endured an unhappy time in London despite winning the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup.

    2. RAHEEM STERLING (Liverpool to Manchester City, £49m, 2015)

Another player who became frustrated at Liverpool after his relationship deteriorated with manager Brendan Rodgers and the club. The Reds managed to extract top price for the youngster, however.

    3. JOHN STONES (Everton to Manchester City, £47.5m, 2016)

The centre-back international became the most expensive English defender when he made his short move from Merseyside to Manchester.

    4. JUAN MATA (Chelsea to Manchester United, £37.1m, 2013)

After falling out of favour with then manager Jose Mourinho the Spain international switched London for Manchester for more game time.

    5. ANDY CARROLL (Newcastle to Liverpool, £35m, 2011)

Signed with some of the money from the Torres deal, Carroll never looked a good fit at Liverpool and struggles with injury did not help.

    6. SADIO MANE (Southampton to Liverpool, £34m, 2016)

Liverpool raided regular trading partners Southampton again to bring in the pacy Senegal attacker who was an instant hit.

    7. CHRISTIAN BENTEKE (Aston Villa to Liverpool, £32.5m, 2015)

The big Belgium striker was Brendan Rodgers’ primary transfer target in the summer of 2015 and the club backed him despite believing he was over-priced. Three months into the new season Rodgers was sacked and Benteke’s chances started to diminish. He has now moved on to Crystal Palace.

    8. DIMITAR BERBATOV (Tottenham to Manchester United, £30.75m, 2008)

Tottenham complained about quotes attributed to then United boss Sir Alex Ferguson stating Berbatov would join them before the new season. Ferguson denied the comments and Berbatov signed anyway.

    9. WAYNE ROONEY (Everton to Manchester United, £30m, 2004)

United paid what was then a record sum for a player under the age of 20 when they brought in Rooney from Everton but they got their money’s worth as he went on to become the club’s highest goalscorer.

    10. RIO FERDINAND (Leeds to Manchester United, £30m, 2002)

The former West Ham defender moved from Leeds to their most bitter rivals after a stellar performance at the 2002 World Cup finals. The deal made Ferdinand the world’s most expensive defender for the second time at that point.
