Gameweek One produced plenty of goals and while a few popular players delivered, there were plenty who disappointed as well.

Here are a few pointers to guide you ahead of Gameweek Two.

    CAPTAIN – ROMELU LUKAKU | MANCHESTER UNITED | 11.5M

There’s still far too many variables to consider after the opening week and Romelu Lukaku (11.5m) remains the safest option for the armband with a trip Swansea City on Saturday.

Paul Clement’s side did manage an away clean sheet last week but that was against a rather defensive Southampton side. Lukaku looked threatening against West Ham and so did Manchester United. Can’t see that changing on Saturday afternoon.

    ALTERNATIVE

Any one of Liverpool’s Sadio Mane (9.5m), Roberto Firmino (8.5m) and Mohamed Salah (9m) could deliver at home to Crystal Palace. The Brazilian, who is on penalties as well, seems the most likely though.

    BOLD CHOICE

Will there be a better time to play Chelsea this season? Probably not. Harry Kane (12.5m) was the source of frustration for several FPL managers last week but could come good against the depleted champions and if he does, those who keep faith in him are in for a tidy differential.

    TWO INS

    HENRIKH MKHITARYAN | MANCHESTER UNITED | 8.1M

The United attacking midfielder was one of the most impressive performers of GW1. After registering just one assists all season last time around, he popped up with two at the first time of asking this term.

He looks like someone who will push on into his second season at the club now that he’s more settled and familiar with the league. Jose Mourinho certainly values his creativity and spark while he’s got good pace as well which gives him the edge over Juan Mata in terms of team selection.

However, the Armenian has already gone up 0.1 m in price after his display against West Ham. Paul Pogba at 8m looks an inviting option as well and is another who could step up in a big way in his second season.

    AARON MOOY | HUDDERSFIELD | 5.5M

Steve Mounie (6m) stood out with two goals against Crystal Palace last week and is definitely worth considering. However, strikers from newly promoted clubs have a tendency to score in patches.

Meanwhile, his team-mate, Aaron Mooy is more likely to keep delivering points. He bagged an assist in the opening week and is on set-piece duty. He also gets forward quite a bit and could even be their man on penalties.

If you’re keen on a midfielder in the top six though, the Arsenal duo Granit Xhaka (5.6m) and Aaron Ramsey (7m) offer good value.

    TWO OUTS

    GARY CAHILL | CHELSEA | 6.4M

The Chelsea defender kicked off their poor showing with his red card last Saturday and has been dropped like a hot potato by the majority of his owners, seeing his price take a 0.1m dip just as quickly.

His straight red card means he’s suspended for the next three fixtures and is way too expensive to bench until then. Phil Jones is a good option as a replacement at 5m and frees up plenty of money to reinvest elsewhere.

However, while the United defender may be more likely to keep clean sheets, Sead Kolasinac (6m) of Arsenal is far more attacking.

    WILFRIED ZAHA | CRYSTAL PALACE | 7M

Much was expected of Zaha at the start of the season but he’s been immediately ruled out after picking up an injury against Huddersfield which will keep him sidelined for a while.

As a replacement, Ruben Loftus-Cheek could still prove good value at 4.5m at Palace while the aforementioned Mooy, Xhaka and Ramsey are all within budget to come in for the winger.
