Apart from Manchester United players scoring big for their Fantasy Premier League bosses, Gameweek Two proved to be more testing than the opening round of fixtures.

It did give us plenty more to mull over though.

Here are a few pointers to guide you ahead of Gameweek Three.

    CAPTAIN – HARRY KANE | TOTTENHAM | 12.5M

It’s ever so tempting to stick with Romelu Lukaku (11.7m) as your captain for GW3, especially after he delivered in the opening to rounds and looks as threatening as ever. The Belgian was our pick for the last two weeks and delivered three goals in total. Meanwhile, Paul Pogba (8.1m) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (8.2m) are inviting options as well.

However, you don’t want to miss out on a Harry Kane blitz. The Golden Boot winner from the previous two seasons, has endured a horrid time in front of goal, hitting the post twice and coming close on another couple of occasions without actually finding the back of the net.

After blanking in the first two weeks, there is a substantial risk involved in the handing the 24-year-old the armband. But despite his failure to score, he’s the player most likely to get on the score sheet on Sunday.

Kane has had more shots than any other play in the league so far (15), six more than second place Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (9). As far as his ‘Threat’ index goes as well, he is comfortably in the lead with 174 as Sadio Mane (141) comes in second. In fact, he’s having a shot every 12.9 minutes. He simply must score sooner rather than later.

He was unlucky not to score against Chelsea and hasn’t been lacking in sharpness. It’s a strange coincidence that he’s yet to score a Premier League goal in August. Far too much has been made of that and he looks determined to break that hoodoo. Burnley at home will be his last chance until next season.

His tweet after the defeat to Chelsea was almost a vow to score on Sunday.

    ALTERNATIVE

Manchester United’s trio of Lukaku, Pogba and Mkhitaryan are all worthy candidates but I can’t see Spurs faltering against Burnley and feel confident that Christian Eriksen (8.6m) will have a big part to play.

    BOLD CHOICE

David Silva (8.0m) has been one of the most creative players at the start of this season. Despite failing to deliver against Everton, he remains a threat and is one of the more affordable Manchester City options. With Bournemouth away next, the Spaniard definitely has an assist or two in him.

    TWO INS

JAVIER HERNANDEZ | WEST HAM UNITED | 7.1M

The former United striker was seen as a massive coup for West Ham when he signed on and could well prove as much. Hernandez is the ultimate fox in the box and that’s why he scored twice for the Hammers last week, bagging a brace by pouncing gleefully on rebounds.

The Mexican can’t help but score goals and West Ham now enjoy some pretty favourable fixtures: Newcastle (A), Huddersfield (H), West Brom (A), Spurs (H), Swansea (H), Burnley (A), Brighton (H), Palace (A).

    GABRIEL JESUS | MANCHESTER CITY | 10.4M

Gabriel Jesus has seen his price drop from 10.5 to 10.4m after failing to score in the opening two weeks. The Brazilian did hit the back of the net in the first game but used his hand in the process and had it ruled out.

He does look just as threatening as Sergio Aguero (11.5m) though and City do have favourable fixtures to come. If Pep Guardiola does shift to a lone striker system, Jesus is the more likely to start ahead of Aguero as well.

With his price drop now, it’s worth bringing him in and recouping a 0.1m you might have lost elsewhere in your squad.

    TWO OUTS

    CHARLIE DANIELS | BOURNEMOUTH | 5.0M

The Bournemouth defender has been an FPL favourite over the last couple of seasons but hasn’t delivered in relatively decent opening fixtures. Eddie Howe’s side hasn’t had the same zip and spark about them either and look likely to be turned over by City as well.

At 5m, there are better options in the market, ones you may want to move on now before the left-backs price begins to drop.

    JOE HART | WEST HAM | 4.5M

A measly 4.5m is a small price to pay to have an England No1 in your FPL side. He seemed like a good bargain at the start of the season but it’s becoming increasingly evident that West Ham United will struggle to keep clean sheets.

The Hammers do have a good run of fixtures and while they may have a few goals in them, they’re also vulnerable in defence. Jonas Lossl at Huddersfield and Ben Foster at West Brom look far better options at the same price.
