  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still on the recovery trail after signing a new contract with Manchester United, but there’s no doubt he’s looking forward to his return.

The Swedish striker, who scored 28 goals across all competitions for the Red Devils last year, posted a tweet featuring a photo of his new shirt number at the club, No. 10.

Ibrahimovic has usually worn No. 9 throughout his career, including at United last season, but Romelu Lukaku claimed that number after arriving in the summer. The Swede was yet to sign a contract at the time, so his number was up for grabs, and Lukaku revealed earlier in the summer that he took No. 9 only after speaking to Ibrahimovic and getting his permission.

Lukaku, who wore No. 10 for Everton, indirectly freed up the number at United, as Wayne Rooney, the previous wearer of the shirt at the club, moved back to Everton right as Lukaku switched clubs in the opposite direction.

With Diego Maradona, Pele, Ronaldinho, Zinedine Zidane, and Lionel Messi among the many iconic players to have worn the jersey in world football, it’s no surprise that the famously confident Ibrahimovic thinks he’s “upgraded his number”.
