  • Hat-trick hero: Mane.

Sadio Mane has been a revelation at Liverpool since his arrival from Southampton two years ago and is widely regarded as one of the best attacking players in the Premier League.

His blistering pace, excellent dribbling and eye for goal makes him a huge threat to any opposition.

All of that came to the fore in May 2015 when the Senegalese international took less than three minutes to completely demolish Aston Villa.

Still playing for Southampton then, it was arguably the performance that peaked Liverpool’s interest in him. Mane scored three times in two minutes and 56 seconds to record the fastest ever hat-trick in the Premier League.

He began with a simple tap-in 13 minutes into the game after the ball ricocheted off Shay Given in goal. His second was again fortuitous although he did show great pace to take advantage of a mix-up between Given and Ron Vlaar.

The strike to complete his hat-trick though was top drawer, latching onto a through ball from Shane Long and belting it into the top corner.

It seemed only natural that Liverpool would swoop for the record-breaker given the previous holder was Robbie Fowler who scored his hat-trick in four minutes and 33 seconds for the Reds against Arsenal back in 1994.

Southampton wound up winning 5-0 and Mane told BT Sport after the game: “It’s great. But I think more important for me was the victory and we got that, so I’m happy for the team and the fans.”
