A hat-trick from the Kane talisman – which saw him set a new record for Premier League goals in a calendar year (39) and also overtake Barcelona‘s Lionel Messi for most goals in 2017 (56) – was accompanied by strikes from Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son.
Meanwhile, Sofiane Boufhal and Dusan Tadic pulled a couple of goals back for the visitors.

After a hat-trick against Burnley, Kane looked even more dangerous at home to Southampton. He was in his element and it showed from the start as he went close to opening the scoring with just six minutes on the clock.
His movement was exceptional throughout the game, but it must be said the marking from Oriol Romeu for the first goal was non-existent. Kane had the easiest time staying ahead of the midfielder and nodding in from close range.
Southampton were carved open for his second, leaving the striker with the easiest of tap-ins. His confidence was clearly through the roof though as his attempt to lob the keeper from 30 yards out just before the break indicated as much.
His movement came to the fore again for Son’s goal as his clever run dragged the two Southampton defenders wide, allowing the midfielder to run into the space and score from Alli’s pass.
Kane was at the heart of several Spurs attacks and could well have had more to his name. His chipped finish to complete his hat-trick spoke volumes of the kind of form he was in on the day.
Kane scores his second
6th min: Alli drives through the middle and plays in Eriksen who gets into the box and squares it for Kane. He does well to get on the end of it but can only stab it wide of the near post.
22nd min: Eriksen whips in free-kick and Kane can’t miss with a header from a couple of yards out.
39th min: Alli makes his way past a couple of players and spreads it wide to Son who lays it on a plate for Kane to tap in for his second.
45 + 2nd min: Just before the half-time whistle can go, Kane carries the ball forward and catches Fraser Forster off his line with an audacious lob from outside the area but it goes just over.
51st min: Alli plays in Son who scores on the break but it was Kane’s intelligent run that dragged two defenders wide and made space for the Korean’s run.
57th min: Kane attempts a superb volley from a long ball played over the top by Danny Rose but his effort goes agonisingly wide.
67th min: Alli plays Kane through and the striker completes his hat-trick with a cheeky chip over Forster.
If this isn’t a performance that earns a player full-marks, what is? Kane was superb on the day and looked like scoring every time he made a run forward. His movement was outstanding but he also worked incredibly hard for the team, as he always does.
