An Alfie Mawson goal in the 40th minute proved to be the winner for Swansea as they beat Liverpool 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium.

After ending Manchester City’s unbeaten run, Liverpool surrendered their own 18-game streak without defeat.

Here, we look at how Liverpool players rated:

LORIS KARIUS: Couldn’t do much to stop the goal. Had a quite night otherwise with just one straightforward save. He didn’t command his box though. Refused to claim crosses within his reach. 6

JOE GOMEZ: Had a decent game. It was evident that Sam Clucas only really had any joy when he drifted inside or swapped flanks. Got no change out of Gomez. 6

VIRGIL VAN DIJK: Solid and composed. Did well to rise above his team-mates to get his head onto a Swansea corner but was unfortunate not to get distance on it and led to the goal eventually. He did go close up the other end as well and stepped up into midfield regularly. Set up Roberto Firmino for what should’ve been a dramatic equaliser in the dying seconds but the Brazilian’s header struck the upright. 7

JOEL MATIP: Struggled at times to keep up with the movement of Clucas and Jordan Ayew. Went in the book for a reckless challenge. 5

ANDREW ROBERTSON: Had a poor outing, losing possession on a couple of occasions. Struggled to get a tackle in as well. Got himself booked. 4

MOHAMED SALAH: Liverpool’s talisman had an off night by his standards. He looked the most likely to create goal-scoring opportunities and went close with a great free-kick. Was his side’s chief threat in attack. 7

EMRE CAN: He had the legs and energy in midfield but his touch was sloppy at times and his shooting wayward. 5

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN: Strong running through the middle and joined in the attack at every opportunity. His passing let him down though. 5

GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM: Was lacklustre at best. Couldn’t make his mark on the game and offered little in attack. 5

SADIO MANE: Was anonymous throughout except for his sliced volley from Salah’s cross squandering Liverpool’s best chance in the first half. 4

ROBERTO FIRMINO: Second only to Salah in terms of offering a threat in attack. However, he should’ve buried his header deep into stoppage time to rescue a point. 6

    SUBSTITUTES

ADAM LALLANA (for Oxlade-Chamberlain 68′): Should’ve done better on the rebound from Firmino’s header. Created a couple of chances after coming on to his credit. 6

DANNY INGS (for Wijnaldum 73′): A neat back-heel to Van Dijk whose cross set up that final chance for Firmino. 5
