  • Victory Wanyama scored a screamer right in front of the Kop.

The Kop End at Anfield is one of the most famous stands in all of football. Liverpool‘s most die-hard fans have long made the Kop one of the most raucous ends in England, adding to Anfield’s intimidating atmosphere.

Those fans in the Kop have also had the pleasure to witness some stunning goals, both for and against their beloved team. Victor Wanyama joined the latter list on Sunday when he scored for Spurs, but he was far from the first visiting player to score a screamer in front of Liverpool’s biggest fans.

Here are the top five goals scored in front of the Kop.

    STEVEN GERRARD VS OLYMPIAKOS

Everyone remembers the Miracle of Istanbul, but by now, most people outside of Liverpool will have forgotten the goal in the group stages of that season’s Champions League that kept the Reds in the competition. With third place in the group and a spot in the UEFA Cup beckoning, Steven Gerrard stepped up and scored this beauty.

    PHIL JAGIELKA VS LIVERPOOL

A bolt from the Everton blue. Everton haven’t had much luck at Anfield in recent years, and they were headed for another defeat at Liverpool in 2014. But the hosts failed to clear a corner, and the ball fell to Toffees captain Phil Jagielka. The centre-back is hardly the man you want a half chance to fall to, but…

    DANIEL AGGER VS WEST HAM

Another screamer from a defender. Liverpool were trailing at home to West Ham when Daniel Agger picked up the ball near the halfway line. The visitors, not sensing any immediate danger, backed off, allowing Agger to advance. He made them pay.

    ERIK EDMAN VS LIVERPOOL

Back in 2005, Tottenham were one of the sides plugging away at the top four, knocking on the door but never quite getting in. It was moments like these that gave them hope. Swedish left-back Erik Edman played only one season with Spurs, but he left the Tottenham fans with a goal that will live long in the memory.

    VINCENT WANYAMA VS LIVERPOOL

And then, of course, there was Sunday. Wanyama isn’t far off the three defenders who appear on this list in terms of unlikely scorers, but there he was, picking up a poor clearance from Liverpool keeper Loris Karius. He’d only come onto the pitch a minute earlier.
