  • Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool's second in the 4-1 defeat of West Ham.

Liverpool flexed their muscles in a 4-1 trashing of West Ham at Merseyside, with all three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino finding the back of the net on Saturday.

It was Emre Can who opened their account in the 29th minute, with Salah, Firmino and Mane all leaving their mark within the span of 16 minutes in the second half.

We’ve broken down Liverpool’s performance in their strong effort.

    STARTING XI (4-3-3)

Loris Karius – His fingertip save on Marko Arnautovic’s effort disallowed what seemed like a sure goal. 7

Virgil van Dijk – Wasn’t all that involved in the action, which was probably a good thing for Liverpool in this one. 6

James Milner – Nearly set up a goal in the opening minutes on a beautiful through pass to Roberto Firmino and remained effective after a couple knocks. 7

Andrew Robertson – Streaking runs down the left flank showed off his range in the first half, but he was out of position on West Ham’s lone goal. 6

Joel Matip – A mistake nearly allowed Arnautovic to score in the first half and he was often shaky before settling down somewhat in the final 45 minutes. 6

Trent Alexander-Arnold – The youngster wasn’t far off from being involved in the goals as he added some punch, bombing on from his full-back role. 7

Sadio Mane – Wasn’t in his element and missed a sitter of a chance in the second half when he had no one to beat but the goalkeeper. Made up for it with Liverpool’s fourth. 7

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – His relentless run in the second half created the opening for Salah’s finish and had other moments of brilliance. 8

Emre Can – His header gave Liverpool the lead in the first half and his long pass fed Firmino for the third. 8

Roberto Firmino – The Brazilian’s no-look goal gave Liverpool their third as his run beat the defensive line before he tapped the ball past Adrian and then slotted away an easy finish. 7

Mohamed Salah – A wonderful finish added Liverpool’s second goal and his attacking was the lynchpin of Liverpool’s assault, as usual. 8
