  • Harry Kane says he is unperturbed by being the butt of jokes on social media over his appeal to the Premier League to be awarded a goal that had initially been credited to teammate Christian Eriksen in Tottenham‘s 2-1 win over Stoke City earlier this month.

Kane’s rival for the Golden Boot, Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah, was among those who joined in the fun on Twitter after the league agreed with the Spurs striker and credited him with the goal last week.

“People are going to jump on the bandwagon and have a bit of fun on social media. But it’s my job to be able to be out there on the pitch and do my best for the team and work hard,” Kane said after scoring again in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Brighton on Tuesday.

“It’s just part of the game in this day and age.”

“People can have their opinion; it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Some people can laugh at it but I’m just focused on my own job.”

Salah has a four-goal lead on Kane with five games left in the season, but the Englishman likes his chances of catching up and claiming a third straight Golden Boot.

“There’s still games to go and we’ll see what happens.

“Salah’s been doing well and we’ve both got four games left so we’ll just have to wait and see.”

While his quest to finish as the league’s top scorer has dominated headlines in recent weeks, Kane’s attentions will turn to the FA Cup this week as Tottenham have a semi-final against Manchester United on Saturday, and with it the opportunity to go closer to claiming a trophy and silencing the critics who have said Spurs’ recent spell of success has gone without tangible reward.

“We’ve just got to finish strong; we finished strong last season and got in the Champions League so that’s what we’re aiming to do this year.”
