  • Impressive: Scott McTominay of Manchester United

It wasn’t a classic by any means but Manchester United sealed second place in the Premier League after a 0-0 draw against West Ham on Thursday night.

Jose Mourinho made eight changes to Friday’s defeat against Brighton with the likes of Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford  dropped for the clash in east London.

That saw Alexis Sanchez recalled as well as Jesse Lingard, Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw.

Here, we rate the performances of United’s players.

DAVID DE GEA: 6 – Called into action after seven minutes but was largely a spectator for the rest of the game.

VICTOR LINDELOF: 7 – Playing as part of a three-man defence didn’t faze the Swede. Looked strong and hardly put a foot wrong.

CHRIS SMALLING :  7 – Was fortunate to see his sliced clearance wasted by Marko Arnautovic. Gradually improved as the match went on.

PHIL JONES: 7 – Another solid display by the English centre-back. Used all his experience to cut out the danger and frustrate the West Ham attack.

ANDER HERRERA: 6 – Proved why he was recalled to the side with a strong game in midfield. Didn’t have much chances going forward but did his job in the middle of the park.

SCOTT MCTOMINAY: 7 – Went close twice early on with the Scottish international showing why he was named Jose Mourinho’s Player of the Year.

LUKE SHAW:  7 – Handed a rare start and the 22-year-old made the most of it with  solid show. Was nearly rewarded with his first career goal when he struck the post.

ANTONIO VALENCIA: 6 – One not afraid to go forward but showed his strength defensively with seven tackles in the first half.

PAUL POGBA: 5 – A quiet first-half by his own standards. Upped his tempo in the second half but another disappointing night for the Frenchman.

JESSE LINGARD: 7 – His pace and movement caused West Ham problems. Unlucky not to find the back of the with his three shots on target.

ALEXIS SANCHEZ:  6 – Frustrating night for the Chilean. Although he had the skill to beat the West Ham defence, wasn’t dangerous in front of goal.
