  • Former striker Paul Dickov believes incoming midfielder Jorginho will be a “huge asset” when he finally completes his move to Manchester City.

A deal to bring the 26-year-old to the Etihad Stadium looks imminent after he was left out of Napoli’s squad for their pre-season camp on Monday night.

Jorginho was a key player for the Serie A side last season, scoring four goals in 39 appearances in all competitions as they finished runners-up in the league.

Pep Guardiola’s charges are fully aware of Jorginho’s talent after facing him during the Champions League group stage, and Dickov is convinced he will be a great addition for the Premier League champions.

“I’ve been hugely impressed with him when he played for Napoli in the Champions League,” he told Sport360 on Tuesday as at the launch of Manchester City’s Centurions Trophy Tour in Abu Dhabi.

“He’s a midfielder who has got a bit of everything. People say he’s very similar to Fernandinho and if he is, then I’ll be very delighted. He has been consistent over the past four years especially last season, he was absolutely phenomenal.

“He’s at a good age and considering he is 26, it shows Pep is buying for the future again. I believe he will be a huge asset for the club.”
