  • Alvaro Morata.

When Chelsea failed to sign Gonzalo Higuain in the summer, Alvaro Morata‘s career at Stamford Bridge was handed a new lease of life.

It’s evident that the Spaniard has all the tools required to function as a world-class forward, he keeps reminding us of them with fleeting glimpses of his capabilities. Bt his goalscoring record leaves a lot to be desired.

Antonio Conte quickly lost faith in him last season – after spending an initial £58 million to sign him in the first place – and the 25-year-old seemingly never recovered.

New manager Maurizio Sarri has offered Morata ample opportunities to turn things around at the start of the season, but the striker returned only one goal having started the first four games of the Premier League season before Olivier Giroud got the nod.

He also struggled in their Europa League opener, with none of his seven shots directed on target.

According to Squawka, Morata is guilty for missing several ‘Big Chances’ since the start of the last season in the league. Having seen 28 of those opportunities come his way, he’s only converted 10 and missed 18 with a success rate of 35.71 per cent.

Only Christian Benteke at a woeful 11 per cent is worse off.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling leads the way with his 15 goals from 28 big chances (53.57-per-cent conversion rate) closely followed by team-mate Sergio Aguero who has 16 from 30 (53.33 per cent).

Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane has enjoyed the most big chances over that period, 50 and 45 respectively. The Liverpool man has converted 22 at a 44-per-cent success rat,e while the Spurs man has finished the same amount at 48.88 per cent.
