  • Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe wants to see a reaction from his players in the League Cup following their weekend drubbing.

The Cherries have enjoyed an impressive start to the season but suffered a 4-0 Premier League thrashing at Burnley on Saturday.

They return to the field against another Lancashire club on Tuesday, with Championship side Blackburn visiting the Vitality Stadium for a third-round cup tie.

“We’re looking forward to getting back into action and looking forward to having the chance to respond,” Howe said at his pre-match press conference.

“We won’t underestimate Blackburn in any way, we know we’ll have to play well to get through.”

Other ties that see a Premier League club take on Championship opposition include Millwall against Fulham and West Brom against Crystal Palace, which will see former Baggies boss Roy Hodgson return to the Hawthorns.

Another eye-catching clash sees Derby go to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United, where former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will go up against his former boss Jose Mourinho.

Pep Guardiola is contemplating whether to hand a Manchester City debut to teenage goalkeeper Arijanet Muric at Oxford.

Muric was recalled from a season-long loan at NAC Breda last month following an injury to back-up custodian Claudio Bravo. He has been on the bench for City’s last five games and will come into the reckoning if Guardiola decides to give first-choice Ederson a rest.

“I don’t know. I haven’t made a decision. I want to speak with Xabi (Mancisidor, head of goalkeeping),” said the City manager.

Burnley midfielder Steven Defour looks set for his first appearance of the season against Burton.

The Belgian has not featured for the Clarets since January after undergoing knee surgery, before then suffering an injury setback during pre-season.

“Steven is pushing again now and he’s in a very strong frame of mind. He’s very clear-minded about his body and the readiness to go. He will have some involvement (at Burton),” said Burnley boss Sean Dyche at his pre-match press conference.

An all-Championship clash at Deepdale sees Preston host Middlesbrough. North End have endured a tricky start to the season and are bottom of the league table, and manager Alex Neil is hoping his side can discover some form in the cup.

“We need to find a solution and a winning habit where we can play well and get what we deserve because it hasn’t been great so far and we need to try and turn that round – and turn it round quickly,” Neil told the club’s official website.

Tuesday night’s only all-Premier League encounter is at Molineux where Wolves host Leicester.

Elsewhere, Wycombe host Norwich and Blackpool take on a rejuvenated QPR at Bloomfield Road.
