  • Duck broken: Mario Balotelli celebrates scoring his first Premier League goal for Liverpool against Tottenham.

Liverpool closed the gap on sixth-placed Tottenham to one point as they clinched a 3-2 win at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Lazar Markovic found a breakthrough for Liverpool on 15 minutes, shooting beyond goalkeeper Hugo Lloris into the bottom corner.

But Tottenham hit back in the first half when Erik Lamela found Harry Kane, who slid the ball under shot-stopper Simon Mignolet.

Steven Gerrard restored Liverpool’s lead early in the second half when he netted from the penalty spot, after Danny Rose brought down Daniel Sturridge in the box.

Spurs levelled once more as Mousa Dembele bundled in from close range, but with seven minutes left on the clock substitute Balotelli tapped in from Adam Lallana’s pass for his first Premier League goal for the Reds.

Arsenal bounced back from their loss in the North London derby to win 2-1 against Leicester, who impressed at Emirates Stadium but came away empty-handed.

The Gunners took the lead on 27 minutes when Laurent Koscielny smashed into the bottom corner from Mesut Ozil’s corner.

Theo Walcott doubled their advantage just before half-time when goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer could only parry Ozil’s fierce shot into the path of the forward, who arrowed the rebound home.

Laurent Koscielny celebrates scoring Arsenal's first goal in their 2-1 win over Leicester City.

Leicester pulled a goal back on 61 minutes via Andrej Kramaric, who lashed in low after Arsenal failed to clear the ball convincingly, but the Gunners held on to climb into fourth.

QPR clinched their first win away in the Premier League this season to boost their survival hopes, as they triumphed 2-0 over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

A powerful header from Leroy Fer put QPR in front at Sunderland as the midfielder connected with Matthew Phillips’ cross at the back post.

Bobby Zamora made it 2-0 with a wonderful goal, volleying in on the turn from Phillips’ delivery to leave goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon with no chance.

QPR celebrated their first win in the English Premier League with a 2-0 win over Sunderland.

Aston Villa’s search for a first Premier League win since Dec. 7 goes on as Hull City claimed a much-needed 2-0 success at the KC Stadium.

Hull went in front in the 22nd minute through Nikica Jelavic, who raced onto Dame N’Doye’s pass before getting lucky as his shot took a wicked deflection to leave goalkeeper Brad Guzan flat-footed.

N’Doye doubled Hull’s lead with 16 minutes left on the clock as he tucked in at the near post after seeing his initial effort saved by Guzan.
