  • Thumbs up: Luis Suarez moves to Barcelona after three years at Liverpool.

Liverpool have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Barcelona over the sale of Uruguay striker Luis Suarez.

Suarez, 27, leaves Anfield after three years at the club, during which time he scored 69 goals in 110 appearances.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has decided to cash in on the striker following a World Cup in Brazil that saw Suarez bite Giorgio Chiellini in his country's victory over Italy.

As a result of his actions, Suarez was banned by FIFA from any football related activity for four months.

With a series of misdemeanours to his name already, it seemed like Suarez's altercation was one mistake too many and has seen Liverpool finally lose patience with their star man.

In a statement on the club's website, no mention was given to the incident in Brazil by the player or manager.

Rodgers said: "Luis is a very special talent and I thank him for the role he has played in the team in the past two years, during my time at Liverpool.

"The club have done all they can over a sustained period of time to try to keep Luis at Liverpool.

"If there is one thing the history of this great club teaches us, it is that Liverpool FC is bigger than any individual. I hope our supporters continue to dream and believe that we are moving forward and with continued improvement and progression, together we will bring the success we all crave and deserve."

Suarez went on to thank the club and its fans, saying: "It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city.

"But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters."

The move is now subject to Suarez passing a medical and the Spanish club has confirmed that the former Ajax man, who scored 31 times for Liverpool last season, has signed a five-year contract at the Nou Camp.
