  • Plenty of fizz: Koke (l) scores Ateltico's first to send them on their way to victory.

Spanish champions Atletico 23:00 Madrid maintained their unbeaten record and ended Sevilla’s with an impressive 4-0 victory at the Vicente Calderon.

Midfielders Koke and Saul grabbed first half goals before Raul Garcia added a penalty and summer signing Raul Jimenez nodded home his first Atletico goal from close range.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone was back on the sidelines after spending the five previous games in the stands through suspension, and his line-up included front man Mario Mandzukic wearing a mask to protect his recently broken nose.

The early stages were tight and closely contested, with neither team able to create a goalscoring chance until Atletico took the lead after 19 minutes.

Koke picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and drilled a fierce shot which deflected off visiting defender Nico Pareja and flew into the top right corner.

Atletico’s rigid defence had been doing a good job in stifling Sevilla’s offensive efforts, and the hosts emphasised their dominance with a second goal shortly before the interval.

A free-kick resulted in the ball dropping to Miranda, who lofted a cushioned volley across the face of goal and into the path of Saul, and the teenage midfielder dispatched a header to record his first goal in Atletico colours.

The home team threatened a third when Juanfran’s cross was met by Mandzukic’s header and Beto tipped around the post.

It eventually arrived when Antoine Griezmann was fouled inside the box by Diogo Figueiras and Garcia stepped up to send Beto the wrong way. Jimenez nodded home Koke’s free-kick to wrap things up.
