  • On the move: Dani Alves (c) has revealed he wants to play in the English Premier League.

Brazil full-back Dani Alves has claimed this will be his last season at Barcelona and has set his sights firmly on a move to the English Premier League.

Speaking in an interview with Brazilian newspaper O Globo, Alves is quoted as saying: "This will be my last season at Barcelona.

"Next year I will move to England. I want to play in the birthplace of football."

While certain sources close to Alves claim the interview was given at the end of last season and the player has since decided to remain at Barcelona, O Globo goes on to say the 31-year-old is planning to move at the end of the current campaign.

No specific club is mentioned as a possible destination for Alves, although speculation over the summer had linked Liverpool with a move.

Despite coming in for recent criticism over his form over the past year – including getting dropped by Brazil at the World Cup – Alves is still regarded as one of the finest right-backs in world football.

Alves has played in four of Barca's opening six La Liga games this season, during which the Catalans are yet to concede a goal.

Since moving to the Camp Nou in 2008 from Sevilla, Alves has helped Barcelona to four La Liga titles, two Champions League triumphs, and two Copa del Reys.
