#360stats: Sergio Aguero’s goalscoring drought, Crystal Palace’s revival under Alan Pardew

  • With seven games remaining, this weekend sees a number of intriguing encounters in the EPL.

    Ahead of every round of Premier League games, Sport360 – with some help from our friends at Opta Stats – will provide the pick of the facts and figures. Here are this week's highlights:

    SWANSEA V EVERTON

    Garry Monk has the best win rate of any Swansea manager in the Premier League.

    • Swansea have won just one of their previous 22 matches against Everton in all competitions (D6 L15), though it arrived in their last encounter at home in the League Cup this season.
    • Everton have won 13 and lost none of their 19 league games against Swansea.
    • Everton are looking to win four successive league games for the first time this season.
    • The Toffees last recorded 4+ wins in a row back in April last season when they won seven on the spin.
    • Everton’s last eight Premier League goals have been scored by different players (including an own goal by Leicester’s Matt Upson).
    • Garry Monk has the best win rate of any Swansea manager in the Premier League (40%, Rodgers had 32%, Laudrup 27%).
    • Leighton Baines has assisted eight goals this season, twice as many as in the whole of 2013-14 and two more than any other defender this campaign.        

    SOUTHAMPTON V HULL

    Pelle has not scored a Premier League goal since December 20.

    • Southampton have won seven of their last eight against Hull City (L1), including each of the last five.
    • Hull have lost seven and won none of their last 12 trips to Southampton in league competition.
    • Saints have scored only five goals in their last nine Premier League matches.
    • Hull City have failed to score in 13 of their last 23 Premier League games.
    • Eight of the Tigers’ last 11 Premier League goals have come in the first half.
    • Hull have created only 20 clear cut chances in the Premier League this season, fewer than any other team.
    • Graziano Pelle has not scored a Premier League goal since December 20 and has made 14 PL apps since.

    SUNDERLAND V CRYSTAL PALACE

    Consistent: Alan Pardew (L) and Glenn Murray (R).

    • Sunderland have only scored more than twice in two Barclays Premier League games this season and one of them came in their 3-1 win at Palace in November.
    • Defoe has scored three of Sunderland’s last four Premier League goals but first of those came in January.
    • If the Premier League only counted games since Alan Pardew took over as Palace manager then the Eagles would be fifth, only two points behind Chelsea.
    • Glenn Murray has scored Palace’s opening goal in four of their last six games.
    • Crystal Palace have kept only one clean sheet under Alan Pardew (in 11 PL games).
    • Palace are looking to win four league games in a row for the first time since winning five in succession last April.
    • Crystal Palace have gained 18 points from losing positions this season, a seasonal high in the Premier League.
    • Only WBA (23) have conceded more home goals than Sunderland (22) this season.        

    TOTTENHAM V ASTON VILLA

    Kane (L) has scored six in his last four, while Benteke (R) has scored seven in five.

    • Tottenham have won their last five PL meetings with Aston Villa, netting two or more goals in each game.
    • Aston Villa have scored just six goals in their last 12 Premier League matches against Tottenham and never more than once in a game.
    • Tottenham have gained 10 points from losing positions at home this season, more than any other side.
    • Aston Villa have gained no points from losing positions away from home in the Premier League this season – the only team not to do so.
    • White Hart Lane is the highest scoring stadium in the Premier League this season (51 goals).
    • Christian Benteke has scored seven goals in his last five Premier League appearances.
    • Under Tim Sherwood, Benteke has scored at a rate of one goal every 87 minutes in the Premier League.
    • Villa have conceded three goals in each of their last two Premier League games. They have only conceded 3+ goals in three successive games twice in PL history (in 2009 and 2012).
    • Harry Kane has scored six goals in his last four Premier League games at White Hart Lane.

    WEST BROM V LEICESTER

    Cambiasso has scored four goals from just five shots on target in the top-flight this term.

    • West Brom have won each of their last four competitive encounters with Leicester City.
    • There has been an own goal scored in each of the last two competitive meetings between the Baggies and the Foxes.
    • Tony Pulis has not lost three successive Premier League games since April 2013 when he was at Stoke.
    • Leicester have scored five goals in their last two Premier League games, as many as the previous eight games combined.
    • West Brom have scored more than twice in only one Premier League game this season (4-0 vs Burnley).
    • No team has conceded more own goals than Leicester this season (five, level with Sunderland).
    • Leicester have allowed their opponents more clear cut chances than any other team this season (67).
    • The Hawthorns has seen the most goals in the opening 15 minutes of games this season (10).
    • Esteban Cambiasso has scored four goals from just five shots on target in the top-flight this term.         

    WEST HAM UNITED V STOKE CITY

    Peter Crouch has the same number of Premier League goals as Ruud van Nistelrooy (95).

    • West Ham are winless in three against the Potters, losing two and drawing the other.
    • Stoke have won three of their last six against the Hammers in all competitions (D2 L1).
    • West Ham have won only one of their last nine Premier League games (D3 L5).
    • Charlie Adam has had 25 shots (inc. blocked) from outside the box in the Premier League this season but has scored only with one of those.
    • Aaron Cresswell is the only Hammer to have played every minute of every West Ham game in the Premier League this season.
    • Peter Crouch has the same number of Premier League goals as Ruud van Nistelrooy (95) but has played 238 games more in the competition.
    • Mark Hughes has lost only one of his last 10 Premier League encounters with Sam Allardyce (W6 D3).

    BURNLEY V ARSENAL

    Giroud is the first player to score in six consecutive appearances for Arsenal since Adebayor in 2008.

    • Burnley have let in 10 goals in their last four matches against Arsenal in all competitions (average of 2.5 per game).
    • Arsenal have won each of their last seven Premier League games, the best current run in the division. No side has won eight in a row at any point this season.
    • Arsenal have exactly the same record after 31 games as they did last season (W19 D6 L6).
    • Santi Cazorla should make his 100th Premier League appearance in this game, while Aaron Ramsey could clock up 150.
    • Danny Ings has scored (9) or assisted (4) half of Burnley’s 26 goals this season.
    • Olivier Giroud has scored 10 goals in his last 10 matches for Arsenal in all competitions.
    • Giroud is the first player to score in six consecutive PL appearances for Arsenal since Emmanuel Adebayor in 2008.
    • No side have scored more set piece goals than Arsenal in the Premier League this term (20).
    • Mesut Ozil has scored or assisted seven goals in his last eight PL games (three goals, four assists).

    QPR V CHELSEA 

    Star men: Diego Costa (L) and Charlie Austin (R).

    • QPR have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four Premier League matches at home to Chelsea (W2 D1 L1).
    • Chelsea have conceded in six of their last seven games against Rangers in the top-flight (W3 D2 L2).
    • QPR have lost 49 Premier Leaue home games.
    • Eden Hazard should make his 100th Premier League appearance in this game.
    • Hazard has scored nine out of nine PL penalties – the joint most of any player with a 100% record (along with Dimitar Berbatov).
    • Chelsea have scored exactly 99 goals in all competitions this season.
    • Diego Costa’s longest spell of consecutive appearances in the Premier League is eight games.
    • Charlie Austin has been involved in 55% of QPR’s 38 goals this season (17 goals, four assists).

    MAN UTD V MAN CITY

    Sergio Aguero (R) has not scored in any of his last six competitive appearances for Man City.

    • Manchester United have lost their last four league games against Manchester City; they’ve never lost five in a row.
    • Sergio Aguero has scored four goals in his last three Premier League matches against Manchester United.
    • The Red Devils have shipped 11 goals in their last three home clashes against City (L3).
    • Only three of Wayne Rooney’s eight PL goals against Manchester City have come at Old Trafford. Indeed, his last three against the Citizens have arrived at the Etihad.
    • Manchester City could become the first side in PL history to record five consecutive victories against Manchester United.
    • No Manchester City manager has lost four successive Premier League away games since Stuart Pearce in September 2006.
    • Sergio Aguero has not scored in any of his last six competitive appearances for Man City.
    • Aguero has been stuck on 69 Premier League goals (level with Luis Suarez and Kevin Nolan) since February 21.

    LIVERPOOL V NEWCASTLE

    Sterling has made 28 starts for Liverpool in the Premier League this season.

    • Newcastle United have not done a league double against Liverpool since 1993-94.
    • Newcastle have lost four successive Premier League games. They have only ever been on one longer streak (six games in March-April 2014).
    • Jordan Henderson has scored in four of his last five Premier League appearances.
    • Liverpool had scored 84 goals at this stage last season, 39 more than they have currently.
    • Liverpool have only once before had players sent off in three successive Premier League games (back in September/October 1999).
    • Liverpool versus Newcastle games have seen a total of 130 goals, the joint-third highest scoring fixture in Premier League history and the most involving a team who have not been ever-present in the competition.
    • Raheem Sterling has made 28 starts for Liverpool in the Premier League this season, already four more than in the whole of 2013-14.
