Speaking at the launch of a new book chronicling his life at FIFA, Sepp Blatter sat down with CNN’s Alex Thomas this weekend, saying his ‘Coup d’Etat’ exit from FIFA was partly because Americans “try to be the police of the world”.
Blatter also said he couldn’t understand the Swiss authorities agreeing with them.
“I never took bribes. Never. This is the principle I have in my life from my father.”
In response to Thomas asking if he should have noticed others accepting them Blatter said: “My approach to people is by saying ‘I trust you. I trust you. I trust you.’
“This hurts because now I see that I trusted the wrong people.”
With regards to his finances Blatter admitted: “I have not spent the money, all the money I earned at FIFA. I have no boat. I have no private plane or something like that. I have no villas in Antip or whatever. I am back to the roots in my home city in the valleys.”
The ex-FIFA supremo, banned from football for six years, also vowed that he would return to football and that he still has support from officials around the world.
He added: “I also have contact with Presidents of Associations in Africa. The Africans. They still ask me now, they say “President. Now you have to speak. We are all waiting. We are all waiting for your messages! Bring us messages now President!” I say: “Just a little while. I will come back.””
