Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational return to scoring form has proven “he’s the best in the world”, according to Real Madrid team-mate Casemiro.
Ronaldo, 32, struck a brace in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat of 10-man Getafe to move onto an incredible 301 La Liga goals. This performance continued an uptick which has seen the legendary forward strike 14 times in his past eight matches.
“We enjoyed it and played very well, especially when they went a man down because we were able to control the game,” said Brazil defensive midfielder Casemiro, according to AS.
“It was obvious Getafe struggled physically after the sending off. We had control of the game and we did a good job at home.
“Cristiano showed again he’s the best in the world and he brings so much to the team.”
Attention for Los Blancos has now switched to Tuesday’s Champions League decider at Paris Saint-Germain – Zinedine Zidane’s troops earned a 3-1 advantage from the first-leg meeting in the round of 16.
Casemiro’s international colleague Neymar will be absent because of surgery to correct a broken metatarsal, which is set to sideline him for approximately three months.
The absence of the world’s most-expensive player has not lulled Casemiro into a false sense of security.
He said: “I haven’t spoken to Neymar, but in these kinds of matches everyone should be involved. It is a game he won’t play, but PSG have top players.
“Now [Angel] Di María will feature and he is top class. We have the advantage but they are a tough side and will make us suffer – it will be a great game.
“Hopefully [Luka] Modric and [Toni] Kroos will play. I cannot confirm anything but hopefully they’ll be ready.
“They are top drawer and I’m used to having them alongside me.”
