  • Bale's future at Madrid has been in doubt.

Gareth Bale’s agent  has once again come to the defence of his client, this time blaming the Welshman’s Real Madrid teammates for his slump in form.

Less than a week after hitting back at ITV pundit Roy Keane for his comments that Bale rendered Real a team of 10men after his listless display in Real’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, Jonathan Barnett now taken Bale’s teammates to task.

Citing the amount of ground Bale covered in that Juve defeat, in contrast to the fact the player managed only 32 touches in the game, Barnett told Telegraph Sport: “We’ve been vindicated by these [distance run] statistics and it’s what we’ve been saying all along.

“It proves that people don’t know what they’re talking about when they criticise Gareth, they are not looking at it properly.

“Real have to work with Gareth and pass the ball to him more. Give him more of the ball and let him show everybody what he’s good at. He’s going to be the best player at Real Madrid when his team-mates work with him and help him. Hopefully Real will come to terms with this.

“I’m very upset that professional pundits don’t realise these facts. Instead of criticising, they should look at it more closely because it’s plain to see when you watch the games.”

Bale has been widely linked with a return to the Premier League with Manchester United after enduring a stuttering season which has seen him rounded on my Spanish media and the Bernabeu boo boys.

While admitting that Bale has cut a frustrated figure at Real this season, Barnett praised the forward’s attitude and denied reports that he would leave Madrid this summer.

“Most people would have been broken by this but he is determined,” said Barnett.

“He could have screamed and shouted or knocked on the manager’s office door but he doesn’t want to upset anyone. I spoke to him on Thursday and while he’s obviously p***** off things aren’t going well he is desperate to get out there again.

“Every top club in the world would want to sign him but he will be at Real Madrid next season.

“There’s no way he is going anywhere in the summer. When we said he always wanted to play for Real, it was 100 percent true and he’s determined to be a success there.”
