  • Sunday's Clasico will be the first time since 2007 that the game will not feature Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.

While the Cristiano RonaldoLionel Messi era has witnessed a beginning-of-the-end stage with the Portugal superstar leaving Real Madrid to join Juventus, the debate over who is the greatest will perhaps go down as the most popular one in football history.

And DC United star Wayne Rooney has weighed in with his pick.

Speaking to the hosts of Pardon My Take podcast, the former Manchester United striker admitted that the Barcelona star is the greatest ever.

Apparently, Rooney, who has played alongside Ronaldo in the Premier League, didn’t take time to reveal his opinion and spontaneously took Messi’s name when asked who is better.

“They’re both probably the best two players to play the game and I think, Messi is, in my eyes, the greatest ever.”

Watch the video below to hear what Rooney had to say.
