  • Mohamed Salah ended his stunning first full Premier League campaign on a high, scoring in Liverpool‘s 4-0 win over Brighton.

That goal was his 32nd league goal, a new record for a 38-game season and enough to secure the Golden Boot.

    Here’s a closer look at Salah’s display:

    30-SECOND REPORT

Salah showed his tactical versatility on Sunday, playing as an out-and-out winger in Jurgen Klopp’s re-jigged 4-4-2. It was a trademark performance, as the Egyptian showed his usual penchant for cutting inside, getting into the box, and, of course, scoring.

    GOT RIGHT

Just about everything. Salah got his record-breaking goal, probably could have had more, and was generally a menace, as usual. His link-up play with Dominic Solanke, playing as the lead striker, was impressive given how little they’ve played together.

Salah broke the Premier League 38-game single-season scoring record.

    GOT WRONG

He should have scored a second – although in fairness, the chance he missed shouldn’t have come to him in the first place, Sadio Mane being a little too unselfish. Also, Salah had fewer touches than Brighton’s keeper, a stunning stat.

    KEY MOMENTS

26th minute, GOAL: Perfectly set up for Salah. Solanke flicked the ball towards the Egyptian and it was in the perfect spot, on his left so he could swivel onto it and sweep home.

30th minute, CHANCE: Unselfish play from Mane as both he and Salah were through on goal. Mane should have taken the shot, but he chose to tee up Salah whose close-range shot was saved, with his follow-up cleared off the line.

53rd minute, ASSIST: A trademark run, cutting in from the right wing, saw Salah slip his defenders and then slide a pass into Solanke, whose stunning finish got him his first Liverpool goal.

58th minute, CHANCE: A long punt upfield fell to Salah, who produced a brilliant flick to set up Roberto Firmino. Unfortunately, the Brazilian shot straight at Brighton keeper Matt Ryan.

    VERDICT

This was the perfect way for Salah to sign off on what has been a memorable Premier League campaign – breaking the single-season scoring record for a 38-game season and helping Liverpool secure Champions League football. Now he’s hoping for an encore in two weeks.
