  • Real Madrid continue to dominate the Champions League, with a third crown in three seasons earned thanks to the brilliance of Gareth Bale.

The Welshman emerged off the bench to fire two goals – the first a stunning overhead kick – as Los Blancos beat Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev.

Here we rate the performances of each Madrid player.

    REAL MADRID

Keylor Navas – 6: Made a good early save from Alexander-Arnold and some decent punches clear. No chance for the goal.

Dani Carvajal – 6: Looked lively down the right before limping off with a muscle injury which puts his World Cup place in jeopardy.

Raphael Varane – 7: Made a couple of good interventions as Liverpool threatened early and gave Firmino a tough night.

Sergio Ramos – 7: Got away with fouling Salah in the injury incident and produced every trick in the book over the course of the game.

Marcelo – 6: Less of an attacking force than usual other than crossing for Bale’s stunner, but improved his defensive input.

Luka Modric – 6: Produced some moments of class but couldn’t stamp his authority on the game due to Liverpool’s energy.

Casemiro – 5: Looked harried and uncomfortable against Liverpool’s pressing, the weak link in midfield for Madrid.

Isco – 6: Quiet early on but became more influential as the game went on and hit the bar before being replaced.

Toni Kroos – 6: In and out of the game, showing his excellent range of passing during Madrid’s dominant spells but sometimes smothered.

Karim Benzema – 8: Justified his selection with a smooth display, not to mention a bizarre opening goal. Linked play with class.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 5: Fired a low shot just over but was otherwise very quiet, regularly conceding possession. Real off night.

    SUBS

Nacho – 6: Steady and competent at right-back without offering much attacking presence after replacing Carvajal.

Gareth Bale – 9: Netted one of the best goals in Champions League history within seconds of appearing, and sealed the deal with his second.

Marco Asensio – NA: Stepped off the bench for the final two minutes to replace Benzema.
