  • Zinedine Zidane announced his decision to resign from his post as Real Madrid manager on Thursday and the club are moving swiftly to find a replacement.

The Frenchman followed his illustrious playing career with a phenomenal start to coaching as he secured nine trophies, including three Champions Leagues, during a two-and-a-half-year spell with Los Blancos.

Florentino Perez and Madrid’s club directors are keen to keep winning silverware and to that end, have already contacted Mauricio Pochettino and Joachim Low about the prospect of succeeding Zidane, Marca claim.

Pochettino is said to be at the top of their list and is the preferred choice but his situation is a more complicated one as he penned a new deal with Tottenham this year.

However, there is an agreement – albeit unofficial – in place with chairman Daniel Levy that would allow the Argentine to negotiate with the Spanish club if he wishes to.

Low has also been contacted but would have to leave his role as Germany coach prematurely as his contract runs until 2022.
