  • Kane has previously been linked with a move to Madrid.

Harry Kane has been chosen by Real Madrid fans as their preferred striking option should the club look to dip into the market for a traditional centre-forward.

Marca survey, which included only orthodox No9s – the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Eden Hazard, for example, were not included – saw Kane pick up 26 percent of the fan vote, well ahead of the next-preferred options, Edinson Cavani and Mauro Icardi.

The latter duo both earned 14 percent of fan votes.

Madrid academy products Mariano, now at Lyon, and Rodrigo, currently a Valencia player, did not catch the eye of Madrid fans, getting just 12 percent and 6 percent of the vote respectively.

Robert Lewandowski has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital, though it could cost around €100million to prise him away from Bayern Munich. In any case, the Polish striker was not a popular choice among the Madrid faithful, only 12 percent of whom voted for the 29-year-old.

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s shock transfer to Juventus means Madrid need to replace the 50 goals per season that the Portuguese star more or less guaranteed. Gareth Bale has been tipped to step out of Ronaldo’s shadow and Karim Benzema is being backed to recover from a season-long dip in form, but the two combined for 33 goals last season. Ronaldo managed 44 alone.

Hazard, who would be the traditional Galactico signing and has been heavily linked with a move, scored only 20 goals in 44 appearances last term.
