  • AC Milan earned a dramatic win over Genoa.

AC Milan bounced back from their disappointing Europa League loss to Arsenal in midweek to take all three points from their visit to Genoa thanks to a last-gasp winner from Andre Silva.

It was a slightly fortunate win as Genoa created the better chances, but it gave Milan a three-point lead over Sampdoria in the battle for sixth place in Serie A.

Here’s a look at how Gennaro Gattuso’s squad fared.

Gianluigi Donnarumma 6 – Was asked to do little other than make routine saves. His leadership of a defence full of more experienced colleagues continues to be impressive.

Fabio Borini 4 – The experiment of using Borini as a right-back was an utter failure, as the former Sunderland and Liverpool player was often caught out or made basic errors.

Leonardo Bonucci 6 – A solid display from the veteran, whose upturn in form continued. Led his defence well and was a willing member of Milan’s attacks, although his passing often went awry.

Alessio Romagnoli 6 – Looked assured for the most part, doing his part in a steady display from the Milan back-line, although they did concede two gilt-edged chances.

Ricardo Rodriguez 7 – Locked down his flank well, although the Swiss wasn’t able to join in Milan’s attack as much as he usually does. Did have some good moments down the left towards the end.

Franck Kessie 5 – A mixed display from Kessie, who adeptly protected his defence but was left wanting from an attacking sense, with his distribution leaving much to be desired.

Lucas Biglia 6 – An assured display in midfield from the veteran, albeit one more of industry than imagination as he distributed well but struggled to break down a well-organised defence.

Giacomo Bonaventura 6 – A performance more about effort and energy than high quality, as Bonaventura was a willing runner but was never really a threat to the Genoa defence.

Suso 8 – Always looked the likeliest to create anything of note for Milan, and he finally succeeded right at the end, delivering an inch-perfect cross for the winner.

Nikola Kalinic 4 – Another day where the Croat struggled to make an impact, offering little threat and generally looking out of sorts – much like he has all season.

Hakan Calhanoglu 5 – Had the sort of opportunity that he dreams of, a first-half free-kick on the edge of the area that has become Calhanoglu’s calling card. His attempt was as disappointing as the rest of his display.

    SUBSTITUTES

Patrick Cutrone 7 – Instantly made an impact coming on, proving to be more of a menace to Genoa’s defence than the man he replaced, Kalinic.

Andre Silva 8 – Could this be the moment that kick-starts Silva’s Milan career? A first Serie A goal for the club, and given the dramatic circumstances,

Davide Calabria 6 – Wasn’t fit to start but was capable of providing a cameo at right-back that led to Milan’s side being much more balanced.
