  • With the season coming to a close, the transfer window is about to open.

Rumours are gathering apace and we take a look at the latest stories doing the rounds in the media.

    BERNARDO SILVA

The Monaco playmaker is in Manchester ahead of a potential £60 million (Dh283m) move to Manchester City, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The 22-year-old enjoyed another fine season at the heart of the impressive Ligue 1 champions with Manchester United also interested in his signature.

Silva reportedly arrived at Manchester Airport on Thursday night having flown in from Mallorca.

    RATING: 8/10

SPORT360 VERDICT: Well, he’s not flown in from sunny Mallorca to Manchester for a holiday has he? Although, we hear the the weather is lovely in Manchester at the moment.

Monaco’s best assets are going to be the subject of intense interest this summer and Silva is one of the best young playmakers in Europe.

While City already have David Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne for the attacking midfield berth, the Portuguese midfielder adds an extra layer of depth with Pep Guardiola looking to overhaul his squad.

It’s a natural fit it must be said.

    ALVARO MORATA

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is widely expected to join Real Madrid this summer and Marca reporting that Jose Mourinho wants Morata to be included in any potential deal.

AC Milan have been strongly linked with signing the 24-year-old as reports emerged yesterday that he agreed terms with the Serie A giants.

But with United willing to cut their asking price for De Gea from €75 million (Dh309m) to €25m (Dh103m) with Morata included in the deal, it may be enough to sway Real the other way.

    RATING: 6/10

SPORT360 VERDICT: A player of Morata’s quality deserves to be playing regular first-team football, which has not been the case at Real this season.

It’s no surprise then to see some of the top clubs in Europe linked, especially United who have made signing a striker a priority over the summer.

Morata fits the bill but with Romelu Lukaku and Antoine Griezmann also on their list of targets it’s clear he is not their No1 option.

    NABY KEITA

Liverpool have been keeping tabs on the RB Leipzig midfielder but it looks like Jurgen Klopp will have to smash their transfer record to sign him, so say The Times.

The Bundesliga side are insistent Keita is not for sale having emerged as one of the finest central midfield talents in Europe.

Klopp is keen to add to his midfield with the 22-year-old topping his list of targets to fill the position but he could set the club back £60 million (Dh283m).

    RATING: 5/10

SPORT360 VERDICT: While Klopp insists the club have the funds they need to bring in their top targets, overpaying is not something the German is known for.

If Leipzig are not willing to climb down from their initial estimate then it’s difficult to see how this deal comes together, especially given the money Klopp needs to overhaul his leaky defence.

    WILLIAM CARVALHO

Newly-promoted Premier League side Newcastle have their eye on the Sporting midfielder with a £39m (Dh184m) bid said to be imminent.

Portuguese outlet O Jogo say boss Rafael Benitez is a long-time fan and wanted to bring him while Real Madrid boss.

The 25-year-old has been previously linked with a move to Manchester United.

    RATING: 7/10

SPORT360 VERDICT: Sporting’s president said last week he would be willing to negotiate over the contract clauses of some of his players to raise funds this summer and that could help Benitez in his bid to land the Portugal international.

Newcastle need to significantly bolster their midfield having relied on Jack Colback last season and Carvalho is seen as the perfect recruit as the tough-tackling defensive midfielder would have no issue adjusting to the rigor of English football.
