  • Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has confirmed he has signed with Mino Raiola to represent him as his agent.

The Italian was recently made to apologise when his former agent Donato Di Campli claimed his client was held ‘prisoner’ by PSG.

The comment was poorly timed as well as Barcelona had made approaches for the playmaker which were largely unsuccessful. His outburst may have only made PSG dig their heels in.

Verratti, although then insisting that he is happy at the club, has chosen to part ways with his agent after his unsavoury words possibly cost him his dream move to Barcelona.

He wrote on Instagram: “I communicate that with immediate effect the only person entitled to represent my sporting interests is Mr Mino Raiola.

“I thank the lawyer Di Campli for the excellent work done to date.”

Recent reports suggest that Manchester United has made advances for Verratti as they look for a new defensive midfielder.

The 24-year-old’s appointment of Raiola comes at a suspiciously convenient time should he angle for a move to Old Trafford.

Raiola has been key to United’s transfers since Jose Mourinho took charge, landing deals for three of his A-list clients in  Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan last summer.

His best work yet may be Romelu Lukaku’s £75 million transfer from Everton. Will Verratti be the latest to benefit from Raiola’s close ties with United?
